Key Insight
Simply looking at an answer key after solving a paper is not enough. To boost your grades, you must understand how marks are allocated for intermediate steps, method accuracy, and proper scientific terms.
1. Understanding Marking Key Symbols
Method Mark (M): Awarded for using a correct mathematical method or formula, even if your final answer has an arithmetic slip.
Accuracy Mark (A): Awarded ONLY if the preceding Method mark (M) was achieved and the final answer is completely accurate.
Independent Mark (B): Awarded for a specific correct statement regardless of previous steps.
2. The 3-Step Past Paper Revision Cycle
Attempt Under Closed-Book Conditions: Write out answers in full without looking at notes.
Self-Mark with a Red Pen: Use the official marking key to grade your work honestly.
Create an Error Log: Write down every question you missed in a notebook and re-solve it 2 days later.
